WATCH: Passenger Used Walking Cane to Fight Off Man Attacking Bus Driver

Surveillance video on the RideKC Max captured a good samaritan using his cane to beat a man who was allegedly trying to pummel the bus driver.

The Good Samaritan’s quick thinking is said to be responsible for allowing the driver to avoid further injury, according to The Kansas City Star. Officials with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) say they are trying to identify the Good Samaritan, hoping to credit him for his help.

“We’re trying to figure out who helped,” Cindy Baker, chief public affairs officer for the KCATA told the newspaper. “We think the driver really could’ve been hurt if he had not intervened.”

According to the report, the alleged attacker uttered something “vulgar” at the driver around 12:30 AM and then began to invade the driver’s personal space.

‘[The driver] reached for her radio to call for help and pulled the bus over,” Baker said. “The man grabbed her around the head and neck and than yanked her from her seat.”

At that point, the unidentified older Good Samaritan with the cane appeared from the rear of the bus and can be seen beating the alleged attacker with what looks like a walking cane, striking him at least five times. Without his intervention, Baker says the the driver could not have escaped. The police arrived quickly and arrested the suspect before he could escape. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. However, the identity of the Good Samaritan managed to remain a mystery and the KCATA is hoping to change that. Baker said his cane may have broken in the attack and they are offering to replace it for him.
