O.J. Simpson‘s hearing with the Nevada Parole Board is taking place on Thursday at 1:00 pm ET/ 10:00 am PT. Simpson himself will be participating via video conference from the Lovelock Correctional Facility. The Board is expected to make their decision the same day. Watch the LawNewz Network’s live coverage of the hearing in the player above.
In addition to live streaming coverage of the hearing itself, LawNewz Network will be providing coverage beginning at 9:00 am ET, hosted by founder Dan Abrams, Amy Dash, Rachel Stockman, and Aaron Keller. Coverage will feature interviews with several players involved in the case, including Simpson’s attorneys Yale Galanter and Gabriel Grasso. Also joining us today will be David Cook, collection attorney for the family of Ronald Goldman, who was awarded at $33.5 million judgment against Simpson in a 1997 wrongful death lawsuit, after Simpson had been acquitted of murdering him at a criminal trial.
Simpson has been incarcerated for the past nine years after an armed robbery at a Las Vegas hotel, where he and others held two men at gunpoint while taking sports memorabilia that Simpson says belonged to him. The former football star faces a maximum of 33 years, but will go free if the Board grants him parole.
Just a few years ago, they granted Simpson parole on some of his charges, so it appears likely that he will be freed. If that happens, he wouldn’t be released until at least October 1. If there’s a tie vote by the Board, Simpson would not be let out, and another hearing would take place in January.
O.J. is expected to speak at the hearing, and additional testimony could come from one of his representatives, and possibly a victim in the case.
In making their decision, the Board will take a number of factors into consideration, including his behavior while incarcerated, his likelihood to commit another offense, a report that was compiled pre-sentencing, and any letters in support of Simpson.
