Suspected mass shooter Esteban Santiago reportedly once told the FBI that he was part of ISIS. CBS broke the news.

The unnamed law enforcement sources claimed that he was sent to a psychiatric hospital afterward. Sources also told CBS that Santiago was probed as part of a child porn investigation in either “2011 or 2012.” No charges were filed.

On Friday, a gunman—identified as Santiago by Senator Bill Nelson—opened fire at Fort Lauderdale Airport in Florida. 8 were injured, 5 are dead. Nelson also mentioned that he had military ID, and CNN later reported that Santiago is actually in the Army. Santiago, 26, was born in New Jersey, and recently lived in Alaska. Witnesses told CNN that he got into an argument on a flight, though it’s unclear if this directly led to the shooting itself. In any case, the shooting started after Santiago allegedly took firearms from his luggage, prepared in an airport restroom, and came out shooting.
There remains no confirmed link between ISIS and the perpetrator.
