Students Stage Massive Walk-Out in Protest of DACA Repeal (WATCH)

Students in Denver are protesting President Donald Trump‘s decision to repeal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), by staging a large-scale walk-out from classes on Tuesday. DACA, which allowed children brought to the United States illegally by their parents to remain in the country temporarily if they meet certain conditions, will end in six months, after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the administration’s decision earlier in the day.

The students, numbering in the hundreds and ranging from junior high to college, included DACA beneficiaries and their supporters. About 17,000 could be at risk for deportation, according to The Denver Post. President Trump’s administration has said that in the six months leading up to DACA’s expiration, it’s up to Congress to pass legislation that could take its place.

State Rep. Leslie Herod warned against a full repeal of DACA. “If DACA were fully rescinded it would be catastrophic for Colorado and the country,” she said.

“No matter how hard we work, there always seems to be another barrier,” said Karla Nino, a 17-year-old who came to Colorado at the age of 2.
