The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay on Thursday, blocking the release of Making a Murderer subject Brendan Dassey.Earlier this week, Federal Magistrate Judge William Duffin ordered Dassey to be released from state custody by Friday.

Almost immediately, the state of Wisconsin filed an emergency appeal asking that Dassey remain in prison. Dassey, now 27-years-old, was convicted in the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach. His story was featured on the Netflix documentary Making a Murderer.
