Twitter Users Rip FBI for Goofy Holiday Tweet, Blame Them for Trump Victory

Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays. What do you think of this?

The FBI tweeted its season’s greetings Saturday morning (Christmas Eve, if you’re reading this in July), and Twitter answered right back.

Things got political, this being Twitter AND 2016. People remembered the FBI’s fraught role in this election season. The investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private e-mail server seemed to be resolved in July—Director James Comey said she messed up by mishandling classified material, but didn’t recommend criminal charges. However, he told Congress just days before the Nov. 8 general election that his agents discovered possibly relevant emails in another investigation. Except it turned out these actually didn’t change the result of original probe. Nonetheless, Clinton later blamed the ensuing bad press for stopping her campaign’s momentum. Couple that with the government’s actual allegation that the Russian government was behind in the Wikileaks hack, then you’ve fueled a lot of angry responses.

Truly, salt is the most plentiful Christmas present of all.
