The FBI tweeted its season’s greetings Saturday morning (Christmas Eve, if you’re reading this in July), and Twitter answered right back.

@FBI @ebruenig I absolutely love that an agency with millions of dollars in funding assigned this task to an intern using MS Paint.

Things got political, this being Twitter AND 2016. People remembered the FBI’s fraught role in this election season. The investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private e-mail server seemed to be resolved in July—Director James Comey said she messed up by mishandling classified material, but didn’t recommend criminal charges. However, he told Congress just days before the Nov. 8 general election that his agents discovered possibly relevant emails in another investigation. Except it turned out these actually didn’t change the result of original probe. Nonetheless, Clinton later blamed the ensuing bad press for stopping her campaign’s momentum. Couple that with the government’s actual allegation that the Russian government was behind in the Wikileaks hack, then you’ve fueled a lot of angry responses.
@FBI what’s our present? Oh, a bigoted autocratic fascist who may start nuclear war? Gee, thanks FBI.

@FBI how can we have a happy holiday with the PEOTUS fool you helped install?

@FBI I hope Comey and all of Giuliani’s elves in the NYC office are beset with guilt and shame. How’s it feel to be owned by Putin?

@FBI Honestly, thanks for all your hard work this year keeping us safe. (Except for Comey; he gets COAL.) pic.twitter.com/nHcjWqy8PY
