President Donald Trump said Saturday that Hayden Williams, the alleged victim in an assault at UC Berkeley, should sue the school, the accused attacker, and perhaps the state.
“He is going to be a very wealthy young man,” Trump told the audience at CPAC 2019. He was jointed on stage by Williams.
The school announced Friday that University of California police arrested Zachary Greenberg, and that cops will hand off the case to Alameda County prosecutors for possible charges.
Video posted by the Berkeley College Republicans on February 21 shows two men in an altercation. As they face off, the taller man clocks the other individual with a right cross.
“Fucking cunt,” the attacker says.
Greenberg could not be immediately reached for comment. He and Williams are not students at the school, according to The Washington Post.
Williams, who works with the conservative Leadership Institute, told Fox Business in an interview that he was working with conservative Berkeley students to help recruit members to their local groups. According to him, the incident started over their sign saying that hate crime hoaxes hurt real victims. (This was a reference to the alleged hoax by Empire actor Jussie Smollett.) He said that two people started confronting them at their table.
Williams told Fox Business host Stuart Varney he still had ringing in his ears. His black eye was still visible. Asked if they’d file a civil complaint against the suspect, his attorney Harmett Dhillon–a Trump supporter praised by the president on Saturday–told Laura Ingraham that action usually follows the criminal process.
Dhillon did not immediately respond to a Law&Crime request for comment.
