Michigan Cops Create Joke ‘Popo’ Squad Car to ‘Really Reach the Younger Folk’

Every now and then a police department will try its hand at social media for laughs, and the Bath Township Police Department in Michigan was the latest to do so with an image of its Popomobile.

No, it isn’t real, but the department posted an image of it on its Facebook page. It went viral and eventually the department said that it was just something they cooked up in MS Paint.

They said that they were “still struggling to really reach the younger folk out there” and so they “update[d] our patrol car graphics.”

“So as some of you may have noticed, our page has been pretty helpful in connecting us with our community. We’ve found though, that we are still struggling to really reach the younger folk out there,” the department wrote. “So in an effort to bridge that gap, we’ve decided to update our patrol car graphics in an attempt to be more relatable to the local youths.”

They also added in some custom hashtags: #HowDoYouDoFellowKids, #HopingForAGoodTrialRun

Numerous times in the comments, the department responded to negative responses by saying that it was just a joke. In response to one Facebook comment that read “Real professional,” for example, they replied, “Don’t worry, it’s just a joke. We didn’t actually do this.”

“The officer that made this now considers himself the king of MS Paint,” they also said.

Nonetheless, some of the responses were pretty ruthless.
