Police in New York City are seeking a man who allegedly threw a Hispanic victim onto subway tracks. He is described as black, and wearing a red “MAGA” hat and shirt.
The incident started at about 8:15 p.m. on Friday night, a police spokesperson told Law&Crime. The suspect and another man, who is described as 24 and Hispanic, got into an argument while on the northbound 4 train. The MAGA-hat wearing individual made racially discriminatory remarks, police said. It’s unclear what started the altercation.
The train reached the Union Square station, and the suspect followed the other individual off the car, police said. While on the platform, he punched the Hispanic man, and pushed him onto the Subway tracks, cops said. He escaped onto the Brooklyn-bound L train, which is accessible at the same station. Surveillance footage released Saturday night showed the suspect waiting for the L, police said. You can see the video above.
The suspect has not been identified. Meanwhile, the Hispanic man was helped off the tracks by friends and another person, police said. He sustained a laceration to the head from having fallen onto the tracks, but received treatment at a nearby hospital.
If arrested, the man in the MAGA hat will be charged with assault, and possibly other crimes, cops said. Police are treating this as a bias incident.
