WATCH LIVE: North Carolina Legislature Special Session on ‘Bathroom Law’

The North Carolina legislature is holding a special session on Wednesday to discuss the repeal of HB 2, better known as the “Bathroom Law.”

Outgoing Gov. Pat McCrory issued a proclamation on Tuesday that called all lawmakers to the North Carolina Capitol Building  to debate the measure.  Most reports speculate that the controversial law will be repealed.

In an interesting twist of fate, it was Gov. McCrory that signed the bill into law back in May 2016. Almost immediately, widespread controversy over the law ensued and many major organizations, including the National Basketball Association moved events from the state. Among other things, the law required individuals to use the public restroom of their sex assigned at birth.

You can watch the special session live on LawNewz.com as soon as lawmakers return from recess.  They are expected to reconvene at 11:45 a.m.

Update:  The North Carolina House will now reconvene at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon.

1:40 p.m. Update:  The House will not reconvene at 2:00 p.m.

2:00 p.m. Update:  The House recess was extended to 2:45 without further explanation.

5:35 p.m. Update: The House passed a resolution to adjourn the special session without taking action on HB2.
