Attorney General Lynch Promises to Accept Whatever FBI Recommends in Clinton Email Investigation

Loretta Lynch via screengrabSeveral media outlets are reporting this morning that U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch will accept whatever the F.B.I. recommends as part of the Clinton email investigation. Lynch is expected to make those comments while she attends a conference in Aspen, Colorado. The F.B.I. is investigating whether Clinton or any of her aides violated the law by maintaining a private server for her to use as secretary of state. There are also reports that the feds are probing the relationship between the State Department and the Clinton Foundation. The investigation is reportedly supposed to wrap up in the next several weeks.

This news comes amid intense backlash after Lynch met privately with former President Bill Clinton on the tarmac of the Phoenix airport. Lynch said the two just exchanged pleasantries after Clinton came on her plane.

FBI Director James Comey is leading the investigation. Many feared that Lynch would not accept the agency’s recommendations due to political pressure. When the FBI recommended charges against David Petraeus regarding his handling of classified records, then-Attorney General Eric Holder brought the charges down to just a misdemeanor, The New York Times reported.
