University of Alabama student Harley Barber is being investigated by her school and was kicked out of the Alpha Phi sorority after she posted videos on Instagram where she repeatedly used the n-word.
Harley’s account is apparently private now, but Twitter user @Tabisback posted the videos on Tuesday.
The first video shows a sink with running water, and a voice, supposedly Barber’s, saying, “We don’t waste water because of the poor people in Syria. I love how I act like I love black people because I fucking hate n—–s so that’s really interesting. I fucking hate n—–s, but I just saved the fucking n—–s by shutting that water off.”

In a subsequent video, Barber addresses the controversy surrounding the previous one, saying, “I don’t care if it’s Martin Luther King Day, n—– n—– n—–!” She explained that’s it’s okay for her to use the n-word, because even though she’s from New Jersey, “I’m in the South now, bitch!”

In that video, Barber also talked about how she wanted to be in Alpha Phi since she was in high school. Well, she’s not one of them anymore. Linda Kahangi, Alpha Phi International Fraternity’s executive director, said in a statement to AL.com:
Alpha Phi is a diverse, values-based organization and condemns the language and opinions in these videos. They are offensive and hateful to both our own members and to other members of the Greek and campus community. The Beta Mu chapter leadership and supporting alumnae moved quickly to address the offense, and Ms. Barber is no longer a member of Alpha Phi.
University of Alabama spokesperson Chris Bryant said, “These remarks are ignorant and disturbing and in no way reflect the values of The University of Alabama.” Bryant added that the videos were reported to the school’s Office off Student Conduct.
Update: Barber has been expelled from school, according to the New York Post, and apologized for the videos. She told the newspaper, “I don’t know what to do and I feel horrible. I’m wrong and there’s just no excuse for what I did.”
