Yesterday, LawNewz.com reported on a story involving President Donald Trump‘s personal attorney, Marc Kasowitz. The original report, by ProPublica, detailed allegations of Kasowitz’s battles with alcohol abuse, and how it could prevent him from acquiring security clearance, which a spokesperson said the attorney wasn’t seeking in the first place. Well, it turns out that after someone heard about the report on “The Rachel Maddow Show,” they sent Kasowitz and email with the subject line “Resign Now.” Suffice to say, the attorney didn’t take it well.
The sender of the initial email, who is remaining anonymous, sent ProPublica images of emails Kasowitz reportedly sent him in response, and they are not pleasant. At all.
Let’s back up just a bit first. The message that set Kasowitz off may have been unwelcome, but it was far from rude. It said:
Marc,
You don’t know me. I don’t know you.
But, I believe it is in your interest and the long-term interest of your firm for you to resign from your position advising the President re pending federal legal matters. No good can come from this and, in fact, your name may be turn out [sic] to be a disparaging historical footnote to the presidency of DJT.
Kasowitz’s response, sent five minutes later?
F*ck you
Brief, direct, and at least censored. Also, one might even argue deserved. If only it ended there. Fifteen minutes later, Kasowitz sent out this gem:
And you don’t know me, but I will know you
How dare you send me an email like that
I’m on you now. You are fucking with me now
Let’s see who you are
Watch your back , bitch
Oh boy. At least the other guy took it well, responding with, “Thank you for your kind reply. I may be in touch as appropriate.”
It only took two minutes for Kasowitz to unleash hell. The next one is redacted, likely to protect the identity of the man who is only identified as being a retired public relations professional in the western U.S.
[REDACTED] call me. [REDACTED] if you want a conversation. I will have it with you. You are such a piece of shit. Call me. Don’t be afraid, you piece of shit. Stand up. If you don’t call, you’re just afraid. Call me
And then five minutes later, things got oddly personal when Kasowitz brought religion into the mix.
I’m Jewish. I presume you are too. Stop being afraid. Call me. Or give me your number and I will call you. I already know where you live, I’m on you. You might as well call me. You will see me. I promise. Bro.
The other guy sent the conversation to the FBI after what he perceived to be a threat. Indeed, it certainly comes close, as there’s a fine line between free speech and a specific, credible, imminent threat. Attorney Ron Kuby told ProPublica that Kasowitz doesn’t seem to be in any legal danger, although “When Kasowitz says things like ‘I already know where you live’ he is inching closer to the line.”
