The “stand your ground” hearing of retired police Captain Curtis Reeves continues on Monday. Reeves shot and killed Chad Oulson during an altercation at a movie theater three years ago, after Oulson was texting during previews. Reeves claims that he feared for his life after Oulson approached him, and shouldn’t be charged with any crimes due to Florida’s “stand your ground” law which allows deadly force if there is a reasonable fear of mortal danger. The hearing, which began last week, will determine whether Reeves will face a trial for second degree murder or go free with the case dismissed. On Friday, Judge Susan L. Barthle went to the movie theater where it all happened, so she could experience the same light and sound levels that existed when Reeves decided to shoot Oulson. Oulson’s wife, who was with him at the time, testified earlier in the week, saying Reeves instigated the confrontation. Reeves’ wife also took the stand, saying she feared that Oulson was coming over to her and her husband before Reeves shot him.

Curtis Reeves himself is expected to testify either Monday or Tuesday, according to his attorneys.
