Fox News Senior Judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano argued Monday that fired FBI Director James Comey‘s testimony actually supports a potential misconduct investigation against Obama-era Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
“Jim Comey laid out a case for misconduct in office for Loretta Lynch,” he said on Fox News. Napolitano argued Comey’s testimony justified the beginning of a probe by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice.
“Did their former boss use the Department of Justice for political purposes?” he said. “Did she tailor law enforcement decisions to help the Obama White House and Mrs. Clinton’s campaign.”
Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee on June 8, and he was questioned about why and how President Donald Trump fired him. Lynch, the AG until Jan. 20, did come up in questioning, however. Comey had concerns about how she was handling the federal investigation into presidential candidate Hillary Clinton‘s alleged mishandling of work-related emails as Secretary of State.
“Probably the only other consideration that I guess I can talk about in an open setting is, at one point, the attorney general had directed me not to call it an investigation, but instead to call it a matter, which confused me and concerned me,” he said.
Comey’s testimony caught the ear of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s ranking Democrat.
“I think we need to know more about that,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) on a June 11th episode of CNN’s State of the Union. “And there’s only one way to know about it, and that’s to have the Judiciary Committee take a look at that.”
