Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) announced Tuesday from the floor of the House that he’s going to make Congress vote on impeachment because of President Donald Trump‘s “son of a bitch” speech.

“So, Mr. Speaker, I denounce the comments that were made, and I rise to announce that on next week, Mr. Speaker, I will bring a privileged resolution before the Congress of the United States of America,” Green said. “I will stand here in the well of Congress, and I will call for the impeachment of the president of the United States of America.”
In his short time as president, Trump has faced quite a few high-profile calls for his impeachment. This time, it’s because of a speech made Friday in Huntsville, Alabama during a campaign rally for Senator Luther Strange. The topic turned to NFL players who knelt during the national anthem.
“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out. He’s fired. He’s fired!’” Trump said, suggesting that at least one owner, many of whom are his friends, would soon do it. The president has doubled down on the sentiment.
Proponents of kneeling say it is done in opposition to police brutality against people of color. Critics say it disrespects U.S. military service-members.
Some Democratic reps have already drafted articles of impeachment, but legal questions aside, it will be hard to get Congress as a whole to fulfill this entire process. Merely getting impeached by the House may be simple enough–a mere majority vote is required. But the Senate must decide by a two-thirds supermajority in order to kick the president out of office, period.
