Cops Get Warrant for Man Seen on Video Pulling Gun on Black Students

Problems are mounting for Don Crandall Jr., the Florida man seen on video pulling out his gun on black students trying to enter an apartment building. First, he got fired from his job as a hotel manager. Now Tallahassee police said what he did is illegal. There is a warrant out for his arrest, according to cops in an ABC report.

“After reviewing all of the evidence and consulting with the State Attorney’s Office, a warrant was obtained for Donald Crandall, Jr.,” said a statement.

Video shows a man identified as Crandall arguing with four black students, and a white person who apparently intervened on their behalf.

“This is my elevator,” says Crandall.

“Do you own the building? Let me know,” says one of the students.

“Let me be clear,” say Crandall. “You aren’t getting in this elevator.”

One asks why not. “Because you don’t belong in the building,” Crandall says. “You got a key for this building?”

The elevator opens, and the men continue to argue. At some point, Crandall pulls out a gun and holds it in his right hand. He shows them his key, and one of the students asks him why he has the firearm out.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Crandall says. “Excuse me. Forgive me.”

Authorities argue that by doing this, Crandall broke a Florida law prohibiting improper exhibition of a firearm.

The students attend Florida A&M University. One of them, Isaiah Butterfield, told WTXL that they were at the Stadium Centre Apartments Sept. 8 to visit a friend who just moved in. That’s when the man told them they weren’t entering the elevator.

“It’s student housing, so I’m like, ‘Sir, do you have a key? ‘Cause you’re kinda older than us,” said Stephen Brooks. “We’re college students. We’re 20, 21. We’re students, and you look like you’re in your mid-forties.'”

Officer Damon Miller told ABC in the Saturday report that the suspect hadn’t been arrested yet.

“I do not know his whereabouts at this time,” he said.
