‘The Hitler Way’: Cop from Viral Selfie Under Investigation After Anti-Semitic Posts

One of the cops in a viral pic is facing scrutiny. The Gainesville Police Department is investigating Officer Michael Hamill, that much is certain. Why? They aren’t explaining, but a report from The Gainesville Sun says it might be because of anti-semitic Facebook posts.

The GPD spokesman Thursday that yes, they’re investigating him.

“Several citizens have brought information to our attention regarding a complaint against Officer Hamill,” the department said in a statement to Facebook.”Under Florida Law, complaint information is confidential until an investigation is concluded, and we will not be offering any further statement until that time.”

The Sun said it may have to do with his social media activity. They said they were sent screenshots of Facebook posts allegedly written by Hamill.

The first is reportedly from April 2013:

Who knew that reading jewish jokes before I go to bed would not only make me feel better about myself but also help me to sleep better as well. Here is one for everybody, “What’s the difference between boy scouts and jews?” Anybody know? Well it is because “Boy scouts come back from their camps.

Here’s a second one. Note the end.

so I find it funny that people will talk about how our government needs to do something about our economy and in reality it’s YOU who needs to stop taking advantage of our system and get a life and do something with your life. Gotta love reality when it hits you in the face. Stupid people annoy me. Put them in an oven and deal with them the Hitler way. Haha.

The outlet did not specify the source of these screenshots.

Hamill and two other officers became Internet-famous on Sunday because of a group photo taken amid Hurricane Irma. He’s the one in the middle.

Police were seeking donations to help storm victims, but instead, they got a lot of comments from thirsty Facebook users who thought the officers were pretty handsome.

Hamill could not be reached for comment by press time.
