Sheriff Banned from Parks After Plea in Alleged Indecent Exposure Case

The Sheriff of Dekalb County, Georgia pleaded guilty in a case where he was accused of exposing himself at a public park and then running away from police. Jeffrey Mann will now be banned from all Atlanta city parks for six months.

Mann did not admit to the indecent exposure, only running from police. He pleaded to charges of disorderly and prohibited conduct, which are less serious. The conviction brought a sentence of 80 days of community service and a $2,000 fine. He has already completed the community service. He was also told that he did not need to attend counseling, after an assessment from a sex offender treatment provider.

Sheriff Mann still has his job, at least for now. He was suspended for 40 days. It remains to be seen what will happen in light of his conviction. He does have his supporters, including Pastor Cal Murrell.

“He got weak, and I know all have sinned and come short of the glory of God when you’re not really praying and he was not praying that night,” said Pastor Murrell told WSB.

Mann had reportedly admitted that the alleged incident was not on his own personal time, and that he was in a “county-issued vehicle.” A state agency that accredits law enforcement is still investigating.
