Man Admits to Cover Up After Son Killed Wife, Cops Say

A man was arrested earlier this week for allegedly killing his wife, and now the man’s father is in jail, after admitting to assisting in a cover-up, police say.

Christopher Leclair reported his wife Karen missing in June, saying she hadn’t been seen since falling overboard off a boat in Lake Erie, WFTS reported. According to Pennsylvania State Police, however, Karen’s body was found to have a gunshot wound in her head, after her body was discovered by a boater six miles off the lake’s shore in New York. Her ankles tied up with a rope, and an anchor bound to her chest, authorities said.

Now officials say that Christopher’s father, Ernest Leclair, admitted to helping his son by hiding the pistol which was the alleged murder weapon. On top of that, Karen’s family claims that Ernest tried to take items from the home where she and Christopher lived.

“It is believed … that Ernest Leclair is attempting to move and/or conceal assets which belong to the estate of Karen Leclair,” her family’s lawyer said in an emergency motion, which a judge granted on Monday, prohibiting the removal of any items from the Leclair home.

Ernest, who resides in St. Petersburg, Florida, is in a Pennsylvania jail on $25,000 bond, charged with tampering and fabricating evidence. Christopher is charged with criminal homicide.
