‘I Took Off After Him’: Pregnant Woman Runs Down Alleged Purse Thief with SUV (WATCH)

Video shows a pregnant woman driving her SUV smack-dab into a suspected thief, police said. Not only has Robert Raines been charged for rummaging through her stuff, but the expecting mother, Christine Braswell, was also arrested for assault.

This story comes out of a Walmart parking lot in Asheville, North Carolina. Braswell, who is five months pregnant, told WSOL she and other witnesses came across Raines rummaging through her SUV on Wednesday afternoon.

Braswell confronted him, and Raines bolted, taking her purse with him, she said. This expecting mother wasn’t going to let it go, however.

“He was with my purse and took off and I took off after him,” she told the outlet. “Me being five months pregnant, I chased a little ways then come back, jumped in the car, threw it in gear and come across the curb and ran him over. I was not going to let him get away with it. It’s not right. It’s not fair.”

A WLOS camera team happened to be there at the time, so they caught footage that according to them, shows Braswell’s SUV barreling down the parking lot at an escaping Raines. The vehicle knocked him down.

He only suffered minor injuries, police said. Nonetheless, it seems like in the eyes of the law, both he and Braswell are each others’ alleged victims. He was booked for breaking and entering, larceny, misdemeanor damage to property for damaging an iPad and phone. For her part, Braswell must deal with a count of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
