Doorbusters: Ax-Wielding Suspects Caught on Camera Breaking in at Walmart Shopping Center (VIDEO)

Detectives are looking for help identifying brazen ax wielding burglars. On Friday November 16, 2018 about 4:15 a.m., officers from the Modesto Police Department responded to a commercial burglary alarm in the 3800 block of McHenry. Upon arrival officers found the front glass door had been smashed out and money lying outside the store. When the store owners arrived officers reviewed video from the store and observed two White or Hispanic males in their late teens to early twenties approach the store wearing hooded jackets, masks and gloves. One subject wearing a backpack used an ax to smash through the thick glass door. Both subjects entered the store and stole cash before fleeing. This burglary occurred in a 24-hour Wal-Mart shopping center and detectives believe someone may have seen this burglary and the vehicle the subjects fled in. Detectives also believe family or friends might recognize these subjects or know they committed this burglary. One or both of the subjects may have injuries that occurred while climbing through the broken glass door. If you have any information regarding this burglary, please call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Callers to Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters may also text information to Crime Stoppers at 274637. Two burglary suspects apparently couldn’t wait until Thanksgiving weekend, and decided to go on a different type of doorbuster spree a week early. Police in Modesto, California responded to a shopping center early Friday morning and found the door of an establishment literally busted open. Security video shows two men approaching a store and one of them attacking the door with an ax.

The property features a Walmart location in the shopping center, but the target was the Royal Flame Tobacco shop neighboring the retail giant.

Officers said they found shards of the glass door and cash strewn about the scene. The Modesto Police Department said in a Facebook post they have yet to identify the suspects, but noted that it’s possible that at least one of them, if not both, could have sustained injuries as a result of entering the store by climbing through the broken glass.

Police officers who responded to the burglary alarm met with the store’s owner, who showed them the above security video. The suspects are said to have made off with an undisclosed sum of cash.

The shopping center is open 24 hours a day, and the Modesto Police Department said they believe the “brazen ax wielding burglars” and a possible getaway vehicle may have been seen by others in the area. They’re also calling on the suspects’ friends and family to come forward if they have any information. Those with tips may receive a cash award, the police said.
