Two Wisconsin men were sued after they allegedly filmed themselves climbing the Golden Gate bridge, and posting the footage to YouTube. Peter Kurer (known online as “Peter Teatime”) and Thomas Rector did the stunt in April, the lawsuit said.
“It was actually really steep,” Kurer told KGO days after the climb. “You had to grab onto the sides. I actually got onto it with one hand, because I had the camera with the other hand.”
That didn’t please the Golden Gate Bridge District, which runs the famous landmark. They filed a complaint in Marin Superior Court. Not only are they saying that Kurer and Rector trespassed, but they want an injunction to stop them from making any money off the video.
“The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District has filed a lawsuit against the two men who illegally climbed the Bridge for personal profit and gain,” Steve Miller, Golden Gate Bridge Deputy General Manager, told KGO. “The climbers put themselves and others in danger. We take security very seriously at the Golden Gate Bridge and those who break the rules will face consequences.”
LawNewz.com sent a message to Kurer for comment. Rector could not be reached.
