13-Year-Old Wisconsin Girl Jayme Closs Declared Missing After Her Parents Were Found Dead

A Wisconsin couple is dead and their daughter is missing. The Barron County Sheriff’s Department wants aid from anyone and everyone in finding 13-year-old Jayme Closs.

“It’s frustrating when we don’t have a lead, and that’s why I’m begging and asking and pleading the public to help us share this,” Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald told reporters Monday.

Here’s what we know about Jayme’s disappearance: Not a lot. Even the sheriff said they’re working with very little information. It is believed she may have been taken.

Deputies got a 911 call from a person early Monday morning asking for help, according to a press release. Investigators arrived at the scene to discover two dead adults. They determined Closs was missing from the home, and considered her to be in danger.

Fitzgerald told reports that there were gunshots, but declined to say if that’s how the couple died. Deputies searched the area surrounding the residence to make sure Closs wasn’t immediately outside, or ran into the woods, he said. Drone and infrared technology were used in attempting to determine her whereabouts, he said. Investigators also visited her school, and spoke with her friends, according to the sheriff.

Investigators are working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and FBI in finding the girl. Fitzgerald pointed out there are no suspects in the parents’ death, including Closs. He said they didn’t know who placed the 911 call.

Fitzgerald said he attempted to get an AMBER alert on the missing girl, but couldn’t because of the lack of a suspect or a vehicle. He said investigators knew of no immediate danger to the community.
