The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) seems to have no plans to grant President-elect Donald Trump a honeymoon. The executive director of the organization issued a strong statement on Wednesday morning that promises to aggressively challenge a Trump administration in court if they do not backtrack on certain campaign promises.

“President-elect Trump, as you assume the nation’s highest office, we urge you to reconsider and change course on certain campaign promises you have made,” ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero said in a statement obtained by LawNewz.com.
“These include your plan to amass a deportation force to remove 11 million undocumented immigrants; ban the entry of Muslims into our country and aggressively surveil them; punish women for accessing abortion; reauthorize waterboarding and other forms of torture; and change our nation’s libel laws and restrict freedom of expression.”
Romero called the policy proposals “un-American and wrong-headed” as well as “unlawful and unconstitutional” violations of the First, Fourth, Fifth, Eighth and 14th Amendments.
He then promised the Trump administration “will have to contend with the full firepower of the ACLU at every step” if he does not pull back on those policies because the ACLU believes the “Constitution and the rule of law are stronger than any one person.”
