The murder trial of Colleen McKernan continues on Tuesday. McKernan is charged with shooting and killing her husband on New Year’s Eve 2014, less than a year after they got married. This is the second time McKernan is standing trial for her husband’s death, after a previous trial ended in a hung jury. McKernan has long claimed she acted in self-defense.
On Monday, Colleen McKernan took the stand and gave an emotional account of what happened the night she shot her husband. The prosecution then did a tough cross-examination, attempting to show flaws and inconsistencies in her story. The defense also called expert witnesses who discussed battered woman’s syndrome and whether McKernan suffered from it before the shooting.
The defense is expected to rest their case Tuesday morning, and the prosecution may present additional evidence.
