A Florida man accused of raping a child was arrested while wearing a t-shirt with a slogan that’s almost certain to induce a cringe-like reaction.
According to local CBS affiliate WJAX, 50-year-old Clarence Sheese was arrested Monday on an out-of-state warrant over two charges of rape and one charge of gross sexual imposition. Police say that Sheese sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl in Ohio.
At the time of his arrest, Sheese was wearing a black, blue and silver t-shirt that read, “Father of the Year.”
According to Jacksonville-area radio station WOKV, the U.S. Marshal Service took note of Sheese after he was pulled over for a traffic stop in Florida. Clay County sheriff’s deputies then investigated an August 2018 warrant issued by authorities in Stark County, Ohio. U.S. Marshals say the alleged sexual assault occurred in July 2018 and allegedly involved a family acquaintance.
A Facebook post by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office triumphantly announced Sheese’s arrest and warned people not to use the county as a refuge when wanted for crimes.
“We thought it was pretty clear, our community won’t tolerate criminal behavior,” that post noted. “Especially concerning fugitives who flee from other states into Clay County, because they are wanted for child sex crimes. Clarence Sheese, your decision to flee here was a bad one.”
The post also thanked the Marshals who effectuated Sheese’s apprehension.
“With the great work of the United States Marshal Service, coupled with our agency and some community tips, Mr. Sheese is now incarcerated in our jail,” the post continued. “To those who target Clay County citizens, for those who flee here to avoid capture of crime and to those who harbor such criminals, we will come get you.”
