Top Republican: America ‘Too Great’ to Continue Investigating Trump

House Majority Leader (but not for much longer) Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is wishing congressional investigations not to occur for America’s sake. America is “too great to have such a small agenda,” he said Monday on Fox News.

Put another way, McCarthy believes America has better things to do than to look into potential wrongdoing by President Donald Trump.

During the segment, a video played showing Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) predicting that Trump faces a “real prospect of jail time” and may end up being charged with a crime as soon as he is no longer president. McCarthy downplayed the president’s legal peril. He placed blame solely on Michael Cohen for the campaign finance violations otherwise known as the Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal payments.

McCarthy said a lot of members of Congress would have to leave if campaign finance violations were taken seriously.

“It looks like what they’re going to focus on is just more investigations. I think America is too great of a nation to have such a small agenda,” he said.  “I think there are other problems out there that we should be focused on.”

“We’ve investigated this for a long time, both sides have come up with nothing,” he added. McCarthy said it was time to move forward.

As Law&Crime noted before, there are a number of ways a Democrat-controlled House could be a thorn in President Trump’s side come 2019.
