The so-called Golden State Killer eluded investigators for decades, but police are expected to announce on Wednesday that they caught him. A press conference is scheduled to take place 3 p.m. ET at the Sacramento District Attorney’s Crime Lab. Watch live in the player above, courtesy of ABC10.

72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo, faces two counts of murder after being arrested on a warrant out of Ventura County, California, law enforcement sources told NBC News. A source for The Sacramento Bee said that authorities will announce the arrest of the suspect, known locally at the East Area Rapist.

Records obtained by the Bee showed that DeAngelo lived in Citrus Heights, California for at least two decades. As of Wednesday morning, authorities had not confirmed whether DeAngelo was indeed the suspect.

The Golden State Killer’s first crimes are believed to be a a series of 50 or more rapes beginning in 1976 in Carmichael, Citrus Heights, and Rancho Cordova. What authorities believe was his final crime–the rape and murder of 18-year-old Janelle Lisa Cruz–occurred in 1986 in Irvine. He is believed to have committed hundreds of crimes in total.
