Authorities near two college towns in Kansas believe that one man may be responsible for a rash of sexual assaults that took place near campuses from 2000 and 2015, and a suspect has yet to be caught.
Police from the Kansas towns of Manhattan and Lawrence held a press conference on Thursday, during which they explained that data they’ve collected lead them to believe that a July 2015 sexual assault was committed by the same person who is suspected of rapes taking place between 2000 and 2008, local KAKE reported. The identity of the suspect remains unknown, but the descriptions of the perpetrator and the attacks bear enough similarities that have led to the conclusion that the same person attacked more than a dozen women near the campuses of the University of Kansas and Kansas State University.
Most of the attacks reportedly took place in off-campus housing sites during school breaks. A website with information from both police departments describes the suspect as an overweight white man about 5’10, wearing a mask, and armed with a gun during most of the incidents.
Over the years, there have been reports of 14 attacks .
Riley County Police Department Director Brad Schoen is hoping that someone in the general public will have knowledge of the attacks and step forward. Schoen said at the press conference, “If you know something or see something or are aware of something and you say, ‘hmm, I wonder if,’ the answer’s yes. Call us and let us know that.”
