Police Arrest Woman Accused of Running Over Manicurist to Avoid Paying $35 Bill

Police announced on Friday that arrest of Krystal Whipple, the woman accused of fatally running over nail salon owner Nhu “Annie” Nguyen.

This ends a manhunt that was ongoing for almost two weeks. Whipple went to Ngugyen’s nalon salon for a manicure on December 29, cops said. She first tried paying with a fraudulent credit card, but the payment didn’t go through, so she claimed she would get money from her car. She didn’t. Instead, she tried to drive off, cops said. Nguyen and her husband attempted to stop her from escaping, but Whipple ran the woman over with the vehicle, according to police.

“I tried to hold the car back, but I’m not Superman,” Ngyuen’s husband Sonny Chung told The Las Vegas Review-Journal in a Dec. 30 report. “She ran off for $35 and killed my wife — $35 to run my wife over.”

He said they weren’t technically married, but lived together and ran their salon for almost 13 years.

The victim was 53, and left behind three daughters, and several grandchildren. A GoFundMe by her family sought $10,000 for memorial expenses. It raised over $35,000 as of Friday.

Police released a prior mugshot of Whipple in a bid to find her. Her mother and grandmother called on her to turn herself in.

“You have to come forward, baby,” her mother Sharon Whipple told Good Morning America in a report last week.
