CNN Hires Impeachment Expert as New Legal Analyst

CNN has added one of the nation’s most prominent impeachment experts to their “legal analyst” roster. Ross Garber, a partner at Shipman & Goodwin, announced on Twitter that he is “thrilled to be joining the @CNN team as a Legal Analyst. Hoping to help make sense of the day’s legal news.”

Garber is co-chair of his firm’s Government Investigations and White Collar Crime Group, and has represented several governors facing impeachment proceedings including Gov. Robert Bentley of Alabama, Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina and Gov. John Rowland of Connecticut.

Mostly recently, he represented Eric Greitens, Missouri’s Republican governor, who faced impeachment proceedings before he resigned in the amidst of claims that he tried to circumvent the state’s campaign disclosure laws and tried to blackmail a woman.

“The process of impeachment, when it is real, is incredibly disruptive, it’s incredibly long, and it’s incredibly hard” Garber explained during a debate on the Law&Crime Network in 2017. “While this is all going on the real work of the government effectively comes to a halt and that is why the standard is so high, and that is why impeachment and removal of the president is rare.

CNN has confirmed that Garber was hired as an analyst.
