The US Atty’s Office said “new information” in the past week led it to drop the case against Ingmar Grandique in the death of Chandra Levy.

Grandique was convicted for Levy’s murder in 2010, but his lawyers claimed important testimony from a cellmate was a lie. They said the witness only wanted to get preferential treatment from law enforcement, and a federal judge agreed that there were concerns. A retrial had been scheduled for November.
Levy’s death captured a lot of media attention because of a purported relationship with then-Congressman Gary Condit (D-California).
