A violent incident in lower Manhattan–just a 10 minute walk from the World Trade Center–claimed the lives of at least eight people today and injured at least 15 more.
Authorities with the New York City Police Department (“NYPD”) began investigating the incident as a possible terrorist attack earlier today. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”) eventually responded to the situation and their Joint Terrorism Task Force has now taken over the investigation.
According to Fox News report, a bomb squad is currently on the scene.
Video of the immediate aftermath quickly went viral after being shared on Twitter earlier today.
The video above, however, shows the apparent suspect. In it, a man can be seen walking near Manhattan’s West Side Highway. He appears to be holding a gun in each hand and waving them around.
According to multiple sources, the alleged attacker shouted “God is Great!” in Arabic during the attack on pedestrians and cyclists.
The man in question apparently slammed into a crowd of people with a rented Home Depot truck.
This is a breaking story and will be updated as more details come in.
