A jury has reached a decision in the case of Zachary Koehn, the father charged with murder and child endangerment in the death of his son, 4-month-old Sterling Daniel Koehn. The jury found Koehn guilty of murder in the first degree.
The prosecution claims Koehn didn’t tell the truth when he called 911 on August 30, 2017. He had said that his girlfriend fed the child, who appeared fine, but then she came back and he was dead. Medical examiners, however, said they found maggots on Sterling’s body, indicating that he had not been bathed, changed, or taken out of his seat in more than a week. He was also extremely underweight.
During the trial, the court heard extensive expert testimony that turned rather gruesome at times. Evidence was discussed related to the development of the maggots, showing the amount of time that must have passed in order for the child to have ended up in the state he was in.
Koehn faces up to life in prison for the first-degree murder conviction.
