WATCH: Driver Leads Police on Freeway Chase After Hitting Scooter Rider in Los Angeles

 


A driver initially suspected of stealing a vehicle hit a scooter rider during a police chase in Los Angeles, California on Thursday. The individual led cops on a chase lasting hours until his capture. Police no longer believe the car was stolen, according to KABC.

The vehicle was described as a red Honda Civic, and the chase was happening at low to moderate speeds.

The scooter rider sustained non-life threatening injuries, authorities said. Several PIT maneuvers failed to bring him to a stop. The chase continued on a freeway heading south in Orange County, California.

The chase started in Culver City before local cops handed it off to the Los Angeles Police Department, who in turn passed the baton to California Highway Patrol when the Civic reached the freeway.

As seen on video, the vehicle came to a stop, and the man sit inside for sometime. Traffic was blocked on the freeway for quite a while. At about 4:41 p.m. ET, the driver could be seen briefly stepping out of the car before returning inside. Authorities later apprehended him.
