The trial of the mixed martial arts fighter known as War Machine, continues on Friday. War Machine, who legally changed his name from Jonathan Koppenhaver, is accused of attempted murder and sexual assault (plus 32 other charges) for allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend, former adult film star Christy Mack (real name Christine Mackinday) and another man, Corey Thomas, in Mack’s Las Vegas home.
On Thursday, Christy Mack continued to testify, facing controversial cross-examination from the defense. War Machine’s attorney, Jay Liederman, brought up how Mack started selling her own brand of emojis after the attack, seemingly to imply that she used the incident as a stunt to benefit herself financially. The attorney also noted how Mack’s number of Twitter followers increased after the alleged assault. She explained how she donated a quarter of the proceeds from the emojis to a domestic violence awareness organization. She also stated, “I wouldn’t want to almost die for a few Twitter followers.”
The prosecution is expected to finish presenting witnesses either Friday or early next week. Then the defense will begin presenting their case.
