Twelve years after high school student Natalee Holloway went missing during a trip to Aruba, an investigator claims to have found human remains that may answer long-standing questions since the girl’s disappearance. Her father, Dave Holloway, sat down with ABC News, and a preview of the conversation was featured Tuesday on “Good Morning America.”
“I’d already conditioned myself that this was not real, and I was literally shocked that there were human remains,” Holloway said. There had been a number of false leads in the past, and as a result, the case has yet to be resolved since Natalee disappeared in 2005. The main suspect in the case was Joran van der Sloot, who is now serving a 28-year prison sentence for an unrelated murder in Peru.
The Aruban government is reportedly denying that any human remains have been found, and said that if they did exist, it would be against the law to remove them, which would prevent Holloway from getting them tested for DNA in the U.S.
Should Holloway get confirmation that the remains are indeed his daughter’s it would bring long-awaited closure to a horrible ordeal. “It will be the end of a long, long journey,” he said. “But we’re not there yet.”
