The President of the United States has fired off a couple more tweets in response to Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the Russia investigation, in anticipation of Mueller’s final report.
President Donald Trump asked a few rhetorical questions on Twitter Monday morning:
When Mueller does his final report, will he be covering all of his conflicts of interest in a preamble, will he be recommending action on all of the crimes of many kinds from those “on the other side”(whatever happened to Podesta?), and will he be putting in statements from hundreds of people closely involved with my campaign who never met, saw or spoke to a Russian during this period? So many campaign workers, people inside from the beginning, ask me why they have not been called (they want to be). There was NO Collusion & Mueller knows it!
CNN legal analyst Elie Honig, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney with the Southern District of New York, pointed to Trump’s line of thinking, saying that it reminded him of the same kind of strategy used by criminal mob defendants he’s encountered over the years.
“My SDNY mob defendants would argue, ‘Well how about the people I DIDN’t extort/rob/assault, etc.,'” he said. “This feels familiar, in terms of argumentative logic.”
The “argumentative logic” he’s referring to can be found in this sentence: What about the “hundreds of people closely involved with my campaign who never met, saw or spoke to a Russian during this period?” Put another way: Hundreds of people involved with the campaign did not encounter Russians, therefore there was no collusion.
