The Cook County medical examiner in Chicago has announced that four people have died as a result of a shooting at Mercy Hospital on Monday.
ABC7 Chicago’s I-team reported that at least one of the victims was a doctor. They said she was reporting for her afternoon shift and was shot by her ex-fiancé.
The woman has been identified as Dr. Tamara O’Neal, 38.
Police have announced that an officer who was at the scene has also died. He has been identified as Samuel Jimenez, 28.
Cops initially said the suspect wounded an officer, and three other people. The victims were described as being in critical condition.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said that the third person killed was a pharmacist. She was later identified as Dayna Less, 25.

The gunman who opened fire at Mercy Hospital was initially identified as a 32-year-old male. CBS Chicago later identified him as Juan Lopez. The gunman is dead, but it’s not clear at this time how he died.
Chicago Police Spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said Monday afternoon that police were searching the hospital, and he asked people to avoid the area.

Witness Hector Aditia told CBS Chicago that he saw the gunman shoot a victim multiple times in the parking lot before getting into a shootout with cops.
A woman told CBS that she was in the building during the shooting, and heard warning alarms that indicated someone had died. She said she heard the shooting, and described it as loud and close by.
