Deputy Saves Unresponsive Baby by Rushing Him to ER (WATCH)

A deputy is credited with saving the life of an unresponsive baby, and you can it all on dash-cam footage. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office in Florida said it happened Wednesday at about 5:30 p.m.

Deputy Jeremie Nix was heading home from work when a motorist flagged him down. She told him her three-month-old son Kingston was, in the MCSO’s words, “completely unresponsive.” She needed Nix’s help. The deputy turned around his vehicle, and parked on the side of the road.

As seen on video, a woman in a black shirt hands the child over to Nix, who places the infant on the ground. The sheriff’s office said the deputy performed several life-saving procedures, but apparently nothing worked. The woman can be seen making a phone call as Nix is working on saving the baby. Seconds pass. Nix then stands, infant in his left arm, a walkie-talkie in his right hand, and rushes over to his vehicle.

At that point, he decided to take the baby straight to the hospital.

“I’m not waiting on medics,” he can be heard telling dispatch in audio released by the sheriff’s office. Nix adds that he is a half a mile from the hospital. “I’m headed to their emergency room with a baby.”

Footage shows the drive to Ocala Regional Medical Center, Nix blowing past a couple of stop signs on the way there.

Medical personnel took Kingston out of Nix’s hands, and successfully treated the infant, the MCSO said. Doctors credited the deputy with saving the child’s life, the sheriff’s office statement said.

Photos at the end of the MCSO’s video shows Nix smiling with a recovering Kingston.

“We are tremendously proud of Deputy Nix and we can already see that he and Baby Kingston will have a deep connection that will last a lifetime!!” the MCSO said.
