Prosecutors in Middlesex County, New Jersey say Alexander Goldinsky, 57, faked a slip and fall for a fraudulent insurance claim. Authorities posted one key piece of evidence that, uh, seems to incriminate him. Footage shows a man apparently throwing something on the ground, then gingerly easing himself to the ground while holding onto a countertop for balance. Prosecutors say that’s Goldinsky faking an injury.
Goldinsky was arrested on January 15 after an investigation.
Authorities say that back in 2018, he was working as an independent contractor and was subcontracted to a company in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Investigators said he threw ice on the ground at the workplace cafeteria on purpose, laid down to the floor, and stayed there until he was found.
That was fraud, county prosecutors say, alleging that he filed a false insurance claim between last September 1 and November 1 for an ambulance service and hospital treatment.
“Fraudulent claims cost everyone and we will aggressively prosecute those who illegally manipulate the system,” Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey said.
Goldinsky was released, and is scheduled for a first appearance in the New Brunswick Superior Court on February 7, to face one count each of insurance fraud in the third degree and theft by deception in the third degree. He could not be reached for comment as of press time.
The New Jersey State Attorney General’s Office has been taking a hard stance on insurance fraud as of late, establishing a County Prosecutor Insurance Fraud Reimbursement Program.
