A paperwork mistake may keep Democratic Party presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ name off the ballot for the June 14 D.C. Democratic primary.
According to NBC News4, the Sanders’ campaign submitted the proper paperwork and paid the $2,500 registration fee earlier this month, however, the D.C. Democratic Party failed to notify the D.C. Board of Elections until one day after the March 16 deadline.
As a result, Sanders is currently not eligible to appear on the ballot for the D.C. Democratic primary on June 14.
According to the report, a D.C. voter has already filed a challenge against Sanders’ registration and a hearing has been set on the matter in early April.
Anita Bonds, chairwoman of the D.C. Democratic Party, told News4 that the issue was a minor administrative dispute that could ultimately be resolved through an emergency vote by the D.C. Council, if necessary.
The Board of Elections did not yet respond to NBC4 request for comment.
