Hillary Clinton’s Reaction to the IG Report Was Surprisingly Perfect

Many a time has Hillary Clinton spoken and elicited outrage — “What difference at this point does it make?” Many a time has she tried and failed to appear hip (I will not let Pokémon Go-gate go). And many a time has Clinton been accused of being out of touch — a certain book called “What Happened” and the ensuing tour is one such instance.

Clinton’s Twitter reaction to the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) report on Thursday about the FBI’s handling of the investigation into her use of a private email server was not one of those times.

Clinton reacted to a tweet about information that fired FBI Director James Comey had used a private email account to conduct official business. Kyle Cheney of Politico reported, “IG found that on numerous occasions, COMEY used a personal GMail account to conduct official FBI business, according to source briefed on this report.”

Does that sound familiar? Anyway, Clinton tweeted this:

“But my emails.” It’s short, the timing was right and it was funny.

The Comey tidbit was one of many in the massive 500-page report.

It was a thorough examination of “What Happened” leading up to Comey’s decision to hold a July 2016 press conference where he would described Clinton as “extremely careless,” but “no reasonable prosecutor” would recommend that charges against her. It described what led up to Comey reopening the Clinton Probe on Oct. 28, 2016 in a letter to Congress and then closing it again on Nov. 6, 2016, just two days before the election.

Comey’s decision-making here, especially among steadfast Clinton supporters and some media, been cited as the factor that swung the election to Donald Trump.
