The trial of David “DJ” Creato Jr. continues Tuesday morning in Camden County, New Jersey. Creato is accused of murdering his 3-year-old son Brendan and leaving the body in a park on October 13, 2015. Creato, who maintains his innocence, was the one who reported his son’s disappearance that morning. Authorities found Brendan’s body a few hours later, at a location just a few blocks from their apartment. Prosecutors say half of Brendan’s body had been submerged in a creek, and that he died from either drowning or suffocation.
Court was last in session last week, before a break for a judicial conference. The jury heard the prosecution read some of the text messages that were sent between Creato and his then-girlfriend Julia Stensky during their relationship. Prosecutors believe that Creato killed his son to appease Stensky, who didn’t like children and was upset that Brendan took so much of Creato’s attention.
Some of the text messages, however, showed Creato defending his relationship with his son, saying he was not a mistake, and Stensky had said in a blog post, and that the child was part of his life.
Court is scheduled to resume at 9:00 am ET Tuesday morning.
