Last year saw a resurgence of interest in the O.J. Simpson murder trial, with a popular series recreating the drama and a critically acclaimed documentary revisiting the case. This weekend, the case gets a different kind of look. While Simpson was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, popular opinion has always been that he did it. But what if the jury had it right? The Investigation Discovery channel’s new miniseries, Is O.J. Innocent? The Missing Evidence, explores alternate possibilities for what might have happened the night Ron and Nicole died.
The show, narrated by Martin Sheen, follows LAPD forensic psychologist Dr. Kris Mohandie and Rhode Island police sergeant Derrick Levasseur as they work with private investigator William C. Dear, who has his own idea of who really committed the crime. Dear is the author of 2012’s O.J. is Innocent and I Can Prove It, a longer version of his self-published 2001 work, O.J. is Guilty but Not of Murder. Dear has also appeared as an investigator on the show Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction.
“The prosecution of O.J. Simpson is interwoven into the fundamental cultural fabric that defines the 20thcentury, representing a watershed moment in our nation’s system of justice,” said Henry Schleiff, Group President of Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel and Destination America. “Therefore, it may be hard for many of us to accept new theories that challenge common beliefs and perceptions held in this country.”
Those theories will be presented when the three-night miniseries airs Sunday through Tuesday at 9 pm ET on Investigation Discovery.
