A jogger says she was able to literally slip through the fingers of a convicted rapist who allegedly attacked her, thanks to the slimy sunscreen she was wearing.
The terrifying incident allegedly unfolded early Sunday morning in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, a town about 30 miles south of Boston.
Surveillance video of the area shows a man pulling up in his car, getting out, and attacking a woman, trying to drag her into his car. However, the woman fought back screaming and kicking and was finally able to wiggle free, thanks to the sunscreen she was wearing, she told police.
“I kept thinking, ‘This isn’t happening.’ Even when he was running out of the car, I kept hoping like, ‘Maybe he is running because he’s afraid and having a medical emergency?’ But when he was coming right at me, I was like, ‘OK, this is happening,'” she told ABC News.
Footage shows the attacker running away, getting back into his car, and speeding off.
The 37-year-old woman, who wishes not to be identified, took a photo of the suspect’s license plate as he drove away.
An elderly neighbor who witnessed the ordeal told Today about the alleged attack.
“I saw this guy get out of the car and he started grabbing her and try to put her in the car. They were both on the ground and she was struggling to get away. She finally got away and he got up and ran towards his car.”
Officers found the suspect, identified as Gordon Lyons, 57, after he crashed his car nearby. Lyons, a convicted rapist, is being held on a $100,000 bail on charges including kidnapping and assault.
