Court continues Wednesday at 9am EST in the Zaevion Dobson trial. By all accounts, the 15-year-old died bravely on Dec. 17, 2015. Investigators said two car fulls of gunmen opened fire, and the young man saved two girls from the bullets. He died at the scene, and prosecutors in Knox County, Tennessee argue that Christopher Drone Bassett, 22, Kipling Colbert Jr., 22, and Richard Gregory Williams III, 23 are three of the men responsible. The trio each face charges of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, and employing a firearm during a dangerous felony. Bassett was also indicted on unlawful possession of a firearm.

The state claims that the defendants joined Brandon Perry for the shooting. This incident was allegedly meant as payback for an earlier shooting, in which Perry’s mother got injured. He won’t stand trial, however. He was shot and killed hours after Dobson was. (His father denied the allegation on his behalf.)

Prosecutors rested their case Tuesday. Knoxville Police Department’s firearm examiner Patricia Resig testified about the firearm that supposedly ended Dobson’s life. She said it was the .40 caliber gun allegedly discovered under Williams’ seat in a January 2016 traffic stop.

Dr. Darinka Mileusnic-Polchan Knox County Chief Medical Examiner, testified that a bullet struck the right side of Dobson’s chest.

The defense will start calling witnesses Wednesday. None of the defendants will testify, and Judge Steve Sword said closing arguments may be expected as soon as that day.
