The murder trial of Georgia lawyer Claud ‘Tex’ McIver resumes on Tuesday. McIver is accused of intentionally killing his wife Diane McIver on Sept. 25, 2016. While McIver admits to shooting his wife, he claims it was an accident.
The defense says that McIver was sitting in the backseat of a car, holding a gun for protection as he rode with his wife and their friend in a suspicious neighborhood that he was not familiar with. Diane was seated in the front passenger seat. McIver’s defense claims that he fell asleep, woke up suddenly, and accidentally fired the weapon, which resulted in Diane getting shot through the back of her seat. Before she died, Diane McIver was said to have said it was an accident.
On Monday, public relations representative Bill Crane testified regarding communications he had with Tex McIver following Diane’s death. Crane served as a spokesman for McIver, but said his initial conversations after Diane’s death were as friends, not in the context of McIver being a client. Crane did say that once he took McIver on as a client, there were times when he spoke on McIver’s behalf, relaying information McIver gave him, only for McIver to later tell him to take it back.
The prosecution may wrap up their case and rest on Tuesday. Depending on when in the day that happens, the defense may begin calling witnesses, or they may wait until Wednesday.
