A Denver area woman took matters into her own hands when she caught someone taking a package from outside her home, days before Christmas.
Renee Abeyta got a notification on her phone from the Ring app on Wednesday, letting her know there was someone at her front door. Using the app, which was connected to a camera monitoring her porch area, Abeyta saw video of another woman approaching her home and taking a package, according to local KDVR.
That’s when she sprung into action.
“I thought, ‘No way this is happening to me,'” Abeyta told the station.
Determined to get back what belonged to her, Abeyta got in her car, drove after the woman, parked, and confronted her, making sure to capture the encounter on video using her phone.
“What’s your name? Did you just steal something?” Abeyta can be heard asking. “Give it. I’m gonna fucking call the police!”
The suspect took off, but Abeyta was faster, chasing her down on foot.
“Leave me alone lady. I didn’t take anything,” the other woman said, before Abeyta caught up to her.
“You fucked with the wrong person, bitch!” Abeyta can be heard yelling in the video, which censored the expletives. “What’s wrong with you?”
The woman reportedly handed over the package, which contained a lid for a Crock Pot.
“I don’t even know what came out of my mouth or even why I said what I did. It just happened,” Abeyta told KDVR. “I was mad as hell. There was no way I was going to let her go. I would have ran for as many miles as I had to to get my package.”
Abeyta was particularly upset about this, given that it happened during the holiday season.
“Hopefully that girl and other people don’t steal stuff because it’s Christmas, and I mean, these are presents for people.”
